What this Site Is All
About
Welcome to the AMA
Glider Website!
What is this site all about:
This site is about AMA Freeflight gliders. Now for
some definitions so we can understand the above statement. AMA
is the Academy of Model Aeronautics. The AMA is a self-supporting,
non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote
development of model aviation as a recognized sport and
worthwhile recreation activity. It is the official national
body for model aviation in the United States, sets the rules
for competitions and certifies official model flying records
on a national and international level.
Freeflight is the
magic of model airplanes flying free, sometimes climbing as
high as the clouds or circling silently indoors under a
gymnasium ceiling. Gliders are airplanes that are heavier
than air and have no means of self-propulsion. The gliders we typically
are addressing in this website are usually less than 2 feet
in wingspan.
Why the site:
Well the Krempetz team (Kurt, Ken and Kenny) has been
flying freeflight gliders for about 10 years now and has
accumulated a wealth of information from many other great
modelers who have helped us. We figured it was time to try to
collect this information into a website that could be used by
many and promote the hobby we enjoy so much.
Caveats
One of the great things about this hobby/sport is there is
not right or wrong answers. We judge whether something is
right or wrong by competing. If we do well, then we believe
we have a good answer, solution or design. We have tried to
make available those good answers, solutions or designs
(originated by us or most often by others) but use this
information given in this website "at your own risk".
Please browse through our different webpages and links
which are off to the left of this home page. We hope you
enjoy, gain knowledge and become more involved in AMA
Freeflight Gliders.
Kurt,
Ken and Kenny.
and don't forget, Kirk our Webmaster
